Energy dependence of the sampling fraction in the EEMC

Abstract:  Single electrons are thrown at the EEMC for energies ranging from ~1 to ~100 GeV at normal incidence, at at an angle of incidence corresponding to η=1.8.  The sampling fraction is computed in each energy bin as the ratio of the energy deposited in the endcap plastic scintillator divided by the incident energy of the electron. Between 5 and 20 GeV, the sampling fraction is 4.09%, varying by 1% of its mean value across this energy range.  This is consistent with various recollections of the test beam data.  Beyond this range, the sampling fraction varies ~smoothly within ~6% of this value.

Energy deposition in EEMC for an e- induced shower vs incident energy at eta=1.45

Abstract:  Electrons are thrown at the EEMC at eta=1.85.  The GEANT hit information is accessed event-by-event from within GEANT.  We plot the energy registered as a HIT vs the incident e- energy.  No significant nonlinearities are observed.  A sampling fraction of 4.17% is seen.

Comparison of muon energy deposit in 1st layers of EEMC and BEMC in gstar, take 2

Abstract: Muons are thrown with energies of 1, 3, 10, 30 and 100 GeV at eta = 0.025 and eta = 1.85.  The energy-loss distributions for muons in preshower-1 and the first lead radiator in the EEMC are compared energy-loss distributions in the barrel (1st lead and 2nd scintillator layers).  We also make comparisons between the mean of the distributions and the expected values based on data tables in the particle data book.  The observed means are within 5-10% of the expected values.
