1) Xin, Flemming and I had a first pass on the task-list for Software; immediate

tasks and Run14 readiness trying to address at the same time the manpower

issue per task. There are several places where new people will be welcomed

to contribute. I will post the first draft before the meeting.

2) Blind Alignment Test. Jonathan created a sample with unknown alpha, beta, gamma

rots and dX, dY shifts. Long, Mike and I are looking into it. It appears that there

are some good news already…we will hear more at the meeting

3) Long and I got some updates on Sector-7, real data analysis. We will compare notes

at the meeting I hope. I also put together some results/evaluation of histos from recent

Simulations and extracted the correlation formulas for alpha/beta plus a few other

goodies. It appears that we are closing down on this.

4) Flemming cannot make the meeting but he sent us a geometry update. I append

it here:

-------------

I have one small update on geometry.

- I started implementing the modified sector geometry after I got the final solid works

model from Joe Silber. I had to modified inner part redy, but fine tune it against the geometry.

I also implemented the bulls horn on the east end of the sector. It looks ok in the

root geometry, but will have to set it up properly for the Agml

setup. It can likely be done next week sometime. Once the first sector is surveyed

Hao and I should iterate to confirm agreement between ideal geometry and as built.

Likely we have to iterate a few times to get it correct.

Here are some activities that I am aware of, people can decide whether they want to put

a couple of slides summarizing them.

1) Shusu is exercising the full reco software. He found and reported some glitches.

2) Yaping got feedback on IST packages and made several updates

3) Jonathan is moving on simulation prep work and started working on SSD Db

maker modifications (for survey/geometry work). Daniel is working on pileup QA.

4) Alignment:

   a) Jonathan prepared for Long a dX,dY and gamma only blind test.

Long successfully reconstructed all 3 parameters.

    b) Mike refined his Data work on Sector-7. Plots look good. He also started

working on refining his Sector-2 and 4 work to finalize his parameters. Xin

can x-check results with his technique. Mike also studies the effects of

    a single ladder mis-alignment in a Sector.

    c) I have created a specific-Sector summary plot generator like with Ladders

global and local histos. Also worked on dX, dY analysis. I asked Jonathan

to generate several simulation sets including a Dev14 one so that we can

test our SSD/IST codes, as requested last week.

5) The PXL software review started moving with feedback started coming in.

6) From the task list we posted a couple of weeks ago there are two tasks that

    need attention soon.

     a) Survey info in Db for SSD/IST (Amilkar works on SSD with

invaluable input from Jim) and Yaping on IST (we will coordinate). Idea is to start

with rigid ladder model and then refine individual sensor orientations and gravity effects.

    b) Inter-detector QA, i.e. correlating info from different systems in QA. I am not sure

who will start work on this although Flemming can provide valuable ideas and input.

1) Flemming/Jonathan have some Geometry updates (slides)

2a) PXL software review ongoing (feedback keeps coming and Hao is responding).

2b) The IST packages have also been submitted. Yaping is also modifying the fast sim

to save local coordinates [in touch with Mustafa/Jon.]

3) Amilkar created a first version of SSD wafers-on-ladders survey tables (slides)

4) He also ran some p-p events with the help of Jonathan/Mike to establish resolution

baselines for alignment…still debugging (we see weird things)…We need to discuss

how to best match this sample with real data conditions (cuts, TOF) [Xin, Flemming].

5) Alignment updates (slides or verbal)

6) We plan for a BNL face-to-face meeting on Dec.12/13 (basically one day).

1) IST: submitted for review structures and also requested Db tables creation.

2) SSD: Jonathan sent out something on the Readout

3) Flemming reminded us that we need to have our codes reviewed…it is getting

   late and crowded.

He also circulated a operations plan (needed for the upcoming DOE review) and

also requested a few slides from us for his talk in the same review.

4) Tnanks to Long (and now Mike) we got some good results on alignment of sector-7

using ladders (posted). Another post about the work with sectors will be posted before

the meeting. Also Mike is going through the Karimaki formulas, from scratch, to recheck

and also code the Sector histograms as solid object. He is done remarkable progress.

Leo has send Hao (and me) the sectors survey relative to halves (run13 config.)

Soon we will have a way to x-check, compare and understand things better

5) Mustafa is pursuing the fine tuning of Digmaps. Interest for this, to help, exists from

other groups. He will coordinate this.

 1) there is a DOE mini-review next Tuesday. I will post the slides I gave Flemming

for software…I am not sure I am allowed to show anything beyond that before the

review

2) Long and I moved on pxl alignment. We both hit a puzzling feature that we need

to trace back to its roots and also understand the consequences. Some slides are

posted but refresh before the meeting. In the meantime Mike besides running productions

and doing various root THGeo tests he is about to start testing the code that does

whole sector corrections. The paper includes an iterative minimization algorithm that might

turn out to be very useful.

3) Hao/Jonathan prepare a bunch of offline codes to be submitted for review, correcting

a few bugs in the meantime and doing some cleanup people suggested.

 4) Daniel and his group agreed to help with the simulations under way. They will help

with the pileup issue….static for now but with upc e-.

Reminder: The official pileup mechanism (TPC) is not good for us as is. Needs modifications

to allow for different pileup rates for TPC and PXL (+ no pileup for IST/SSD).

 1) The DOE project review on Tuesday went very well. Work on details on commissioning and

transition to operations need to be worked out.

 2) The PXL package was submitted today by Hao for review. The IST will (must) follow soon

in order to be integrated into STAR offline environment on time.

 3) The Full system simulations can move on. I will create a page on public hft afs area for keeping

track of this work (configuration, species embedded, pileup, output, mDsts etc)

 4) Hao is going to deliver the HFT software overview talk on Friday's plenary session at the Collab.

meeting at LBL. There is going to be, Wednesday, an HFT meeting with several topics (review progress).

Proposed agenda topics (random order) so far include:

Overview - Spiros

PXL software - Hao

SSD software - Long Zhou (?) / Jonathan

Alignment - Spiros/Mike, Long Ma, Xin

[Full] simulation chain - Jonathan

QA and analysis software - Shusu / Jonathan /Amilkar(?)

5) Alignment. Jonathan will post some slides on the topic I sent out a summary

Long has asked for a simulation including all angles and shifts for sector-7.

Amilkar is working on this.

 6) AOB

a) Long Zhou will start his SSD work with the slow simulator.

1) The HFT meeting agenda at the LBL Collab. meeting is posted

https://drupal.star.bnl.gov/STAR/meetings/star-collaboration-meeting/hft-focus

Names are for speaker, not contributors and some of them might change.

Mike got a "Calibration talk" at the Junior's meeting on Monday. If someone

else from HFT gives a talk there we need to coordinate.

2) Fast-QA. This is the official fast-offline QA plots. We need to identify for each

sub-system the person to work with star-soft to implement it, who and what.

3) IST Offline code review progress (?)

4) Mustafa proposes to put in PxlMcHit the local geant coordinates. This will

facilitate and speed things up a lot. Besides the simu chain reco will start the same

way the data starts…with local coords only. In doing Alignment simulations we

stumbled on this…We could do right only local or global coords at a time, not

both. I have a slide for today. Jonathan worked in a work around

(use "geant" geometry to determine local coords in pxlfastsim but then use

reco-geom to store the global coords). Testing now but…Mustafa's proposal

is the simplest approach…especially for slow-sim work.

5) Jonathan will post some slides that show that dev14 geometry is ready to

be used. We needed that for our tests in #4) above.

6) I have an alignment update with some interesting findings when I use the

local histos to x-check things.

7) Shusu on Reco codes

There are two hot topics:

A) Noisy pixels/col/rows and their flagging/elimination from production

B) First Pass on Alignment taking out naked-eye visible effects (translations)

A)1) Jon/Mike/Hao work on a method to scan/clean the bad guys. A pilot program will be released maybe today for tests. An estimate on "stability" of hot stuff will be ready for the meeting.

2) There are attempts form Hardware guys (Giacomo) to flag some of this.

B) 1) An initial look at "cleaned" ladders (sensor level) with alignment software shows the dire need of cleaning up and the need for statistics (we are not in  bad shape in accumulated statistics, need to process it).

2) Some technical work in the background is also going on, e.g simulation studies etc.

3) Hao plans to introduce the Surveyed geometry in production plus gross z-shift of +3mm

Jonathan is in touch with Yaping on organizing IST survey tables (StIstDbMaker!) and next week at BNL I will sit down with Jim to start on a similar task.

Flemming might call in late today or not at all (SSD review). I hope someone can tell us some news from the Run. I missed yesterday's hardware meeting. S.

1) Things are moving with MASKING bad guys. Hao ran some test and found
some minor issues…Let's discuss other issues if any.

2) Alignment. A first pass correction to Sector-7 (which was far from ideal geometry) seems to
give good results. We need to coordinate productions to achieve some coherence.

3) Documentation…need to use afs-hft pages (open to key players, we control them) more for
docs, code (see Flemming's email).

4) IST geometry…Flemming would like to have a first shot at year14. Need to have Yaping's
model.

5) Any news of Efficiency? (Hao?)

Plan
a) After we have the masking working in production properly we will need to do proper
b) alignment.
c) Then put hits on TPC tracks for pulls, dca, efficiencies (need to clarify with Viktor how tracker
behaves near edges etc).
d) run the V0 code to see where the beam pipe is. Yuri disputes the ~ -7mm placement of TPC in magnet
(his analysis of survey).
e) Physics ideas (!)
